Starting from the very basics of how hydraulic fracturing works, we explain many of the risks posed by the process of extraction including VOC’s, methane emissions, earthquakes, risks to the water aquifers, disasters, and the lack of any reasonable method of disposal for toxic wastewater. 1 hr
Debunking The Techno-Fix: A Presentation
Can new industrial technologies fix the problems the old ones have created for the environment and human communities? Can individual technologies with positive qualities be separated from the larger system of industrial capitalism? What are the possibilities for a truly sustainable future on this planet? 2 hrs
Direct Action Skills 101
The anatomy of an action, roles needed, how to do press interviews, how to do a direct action (including lock down devices), how to interact with police during an arrest, and how to interact with workers during an action. 3-4 hours
Basic Tree Climbing Techniques
We can offer to teach a safe tree climbing system using harnesses, ropes, and prussics while using safety checks. Materials are supplied by our group. A space with branchy, hardwood trees is preferred. This includes mid line descent and tying basic anchors. An extended session can include raising and lowering platforms. Training takes most of the day and starts with knot tying.
